Nirvana farmhouse: peace
Appropriate to Maharashtra’s coastal region, we used black basalt stone for the strip foundation along with compressed stabilized earth blocks !nished with mud plaster for the walls. Sticking to the earthy tones of the structure we used natural oxides in selected interior walls to add some hue to the spaces. After the 2018 oods, the Nirvana Farmhouse has been a model project that can prove the durability of natural materials and vernacular construction choices.
The idea was to enter the built form in a way that you are visually connected to the Bhatsa River on the other end of the site. Inside the farmhouse one will never feel like they are in an enclosed space, it’s like walking into shifting scales of landscapes. Only the most private spaces were partially connected with the site, and all other parts of the structure gave an illusion of free-standing walls dividing the site through di erent levels. To add to it, the structure was oriented to divert a seasonal stream from within the courtyard
